The BJP has criticized Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's accusations against constitutional institutions. The BJP released a statement calling his recent comments against the Election Commission baseless.
In its statement, the BJP said that the Central Election Commission has given an explanation to Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission, thus raising questions about the facts of his allegations. It said that it is not appropriate to make accusations against the constitutional institutions to create suspicion among the people.
BJP recalled that in the past too, Rahul Gandhi had raised questions on election process, EVMs, SIR process, Form-6 etc. In cases where the results are in favor of the Congress, it has been criticized that the attitude of the Congress on the same electoral system is different.In its statement, the BJP also mentioned the issue of attributing the 'chowkidar chor hai' comments to the Supreme Court during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In that case, Rahul Gandhi later apologized to the Supreme Court.
Similarly, the BJP has also mentioned the criminal defamation case related to the remarks made on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surname. On that occasion, the Supreme Court mentioned the need for people in public life to exercise restraint while making comments.
The BJP has also criticized Rahul Gandhi's comments on India, army and other issues during his foreign trips. It advised not to create doubts among the public by making comments that undermine the credibility of constitutional institutions.BJP said that there is a need to act responsibly as an opposition leader. Instead of making the constitutional institutions responsible for the political problems, it suggested that people should speak with evidence.
In its statement, the BJP said that holding the electoral system or constitutional institutions responsible for political defeats in elections is not the right approach.
