Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are receiving heavy to very heavy rains as the severe cyclone centered in the west-central Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam. Life has come to a standstill in Khammam, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal and other districts of Telangana. Coal production has come to a standstill due to rainwater entering Manuguru's Singareni opencast mines. Huge trees and electric poles were uprooted in many places due to strong winds. In view of the intensity of rains, the authorities have declared holidays for schools in Mahabubabad, Khammam and Warangal districts. The meteorological department has issued orange alert for many districts and yellow alert for some districts.A special control room has been set up in Khammam for relief operations in flood affected areas. Officials have warned people to be alert as heavy rains are likely for the next two days.
