Hyderabad:
HYDRAA Commissioner Shri AV Ranganath has clarified that there is no need to compromise on the safety of the students and employees staying in the hostels. He warned that strict action will be taken if hostels are run in dangerous buildings. He suggested that hostels should be run in buildings with solid constructions and all government approvals.
It has been clarified that the administrators who are currently running hostels in weak and dangerous buildings should immediately shift to safe buildings and a deadline of 3 months has been set for this. It has been revealed that from January 1 next year, inspections will be conducted across the city, and buildings that violate the rules and become dangerous will be removed.HYDRA has been particularly focused on the recent incidents of building collapse in Anjayanagar, Gachibowli, where two people died and a hostel building collapsed in Delhi, killing seven people. In this order, a key meeting was held at the Hydra office with the hostel managers and building owners. The commissioner clarified that fire safety, emergency exits and building construction must be provided in the hostels so that the lives of those who come for studies and jobs should not be compromised.
Coordinated inspections with three corporations
Ranganath said that joint inspections will be carried out on unauthorized hostel buildings along with GHMC and other corporations. He cautioned against charging only low fees and endangering lives without proper facilities. He said that building 7 floors in a 50 yard space is equivalent to suicide bombers, due to which the neighboring buildings will also face a threat. Earlier Siddique Nagar incident, 6 dangerous buildings in Anjaya Nagar were removed.
Shri Varla Papayya, Additional Director of HYDRA, made the administrators aware of the causes of fire accidents in buildings and the precautions to be taken through a video presentation.
