A press conference was held at the MSME office in Balanagar in the wake of Lok Sabha passing the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Act-2026 Amendment Bill.
On this occasion MSME DFO Joint Director C. Siva Seshagiri Rao said that after about 20 years, key amendments have been made in the MSME Act. He said that through the amended law, the legal system will be strengthened and speed will increase in terms of ease of doing business and solving the problems faced by the industries.
He said that in the amended Act, classification of MSME on the basis of investment and turnover has been made legal. He also explained that the movement registration portal has been made available for entrepreneurs to register without any fee.
Shiv Seshagiri Rao said that the number of MSME units registered on the Akhilam portal has increased from 1.65 crore to 9.16 crore in the last three years. It has been revealed that the MSME sector provides employment to around 40 crore people across the country.
