New Delhi, September 24, 2026: Union Minister and BJP leader Kishan Reddy has welcomed the Supreme Court's upholding of Telangana High Court's verdict on the disqualification of Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender. He stated that the Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed by Danam Nagender and as a result the by-election for the Khairatabad assembly seat will be held.
Dana Nagender, who won as an MLA from Khairatabad on behalf of BRS in the 2023 assembly elections, contested as a Congress candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Secunderabad constituency. BJP approached the Telangana High Court on this. The High Court has given a verdict declaring Danam Nagender ineligible as an MLA from April 23, 2024.Kishan Reddy said that he wholeheartedly welcomes the Supreme Court's order to uphold the judgment and implement it.
He commented that this judgment is not only related to the Congress party, but it is a lesson for the politics of defection followed by Congress and BRS in Telangana. It is alleged that in the past Congress MLAs were included in BRS and some of them were given ministerial posts. Now the BRS MLA has been inducted into the Congress and has been criticized for contesting as an MP candidate on behalf of that party.
Kishan Reddy said that criticizing party defections while in the opposition and encouraging the same defections after coming to power shows the dual attitude of Congress and BRS.He said that the Supreme Court's judgment stands as a clear warning against this trend of distorting public opinion according to political needs.
Kishan Reddy said that the Khairatabad Assembly seat has become vacant due to the disqualification of Dana Nagender and the people will get a chance to choose their representative in the by-election. He expressed confidence that the people of Khairatabad will give a befitting reply to the opportunistic, selfish and deviant politics and crown the BJP in the upcoming by-election.
