Doctors warn that animal bites and scratches can be life-threatening if neglected. On the occasion of World Rabies Day on September 28, guidelines were issued to increase public awareness.

In addition to dogs, cats, monkeys and bats are also at risk of contracting the rabies virus.

Medical experts make it clear that it is impossible to cure the disease if the symptoms appear after being infected with rabies. Even if the bite is very small and there is no blood there is a risk of the virus reaching the nervous system so it is advised to get vaccinated immediately and timely treatment can save lives.
